Open House/Back to School

As shared prior to the summer break, our Back to School event will entail a new format this fall.  The Open House (or Meet and Greet Your Teacher) and Informational Meeting (formerly Back to School Night) will be combined into one event for this upcoming school year.  This means that parents will have an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher in addition to learning more about the upcoming school year including the structure of your child’s school day, curriculum information, and special events and activities for the school year.


Our Back to School Event is planned for Thursday, August 23, 2018.  Please adhere to the following schedule:

Grade K- 9:00-9:30 (Open House) / 9:30-10:15 (Informational Meeting)  

Grades 1 & 2 and ID Program- 10:30-11:00 (Open House) / 11:00-11:45 (Informational Meeting)

*Light Refreshments- Cafeteria (first come, first serve)- 11:45 am -12:45 pm

Grades 3 and 4- 12:45-1:15 (Open House) / 1:15-2:00 (Informational Meeting

Grades 5 and 6- 2:15-2:45 (Open House) / 2:45-3:30 (Informational Meeting)


As you already know, parking can be a challenge in our school neighborhood. As a result, Mrs. Bumbrey is asking  all families who reside in walking distance to please walk to and from school for this event. Parking on the school grounds will be available, but limited.  If necessary, you may park on the street as long as you follow the county parking guidelines.  

Students MUST be accompanied by a parent to attend this event.  Childcare will be provided for FVES students (and their school-age siblings) immediately after the Open House as a courtesy to parents while parents attend the Informational Meeting for their child’s grade level.  For those interested in utilizing the childcare provided, parents should accompany their child to the school gym and check their child in with school staff.  Please pick your child up promptly from the gym after the Informational Meeting to ensure we can prepare for the following session in a timely manner.

If you and your family plan to attend a morning and afternoon session and choose not to leave the school campus, light refreshments will be available to you on a first-come, first serve basis in the cafeteria.  Thank you, in advance, to our wonderful PTA who is providing these light refreshments for this event!

Class placements for the fall will be mailed to families the week of August 20th
